Green, clean, and everything in-between
One thing is clear to us: travel must be as sustainable as possible. Up to 90% of what we use in the hotel is organic. Our facilities are durable and resource efficient. And our Überseeinsel district demonstrates what is possible in terms of energy supply and mobility.
Clean
You can count on it: your Stuuv is spotless and cleaned with eco-friendly products that are safe for the environment, our cleaning staff, and you.
Whenever you need something – fresh linens, coffee, a quick tidy-up – we’re just a WhatsApp message or a note at the Barception away. We don’t have a rigid schedule for room cleaning. Staying with us for several nights? We’ll tidy your Stuuv in between. Just here for two nights? We won’t come automatically, but you can let us know anytime. This flexible approach saves water, energy, and cleaning products, while also giving our guests more privacy and peace in their Stuuvs.
Timeless
We focus on timeless design and decorate independently of current trends. Our aim isn’t to constantly replace furniture, but to use it until it’s naturally worn. That’s why we mainly choose natural materials—they age with style! When needed, new furniture is made for us from wood, vegan leather, and other sustainable materials.
Well Hydrated
Minibar? We don’t have one, because it constantly uses energy even when it’s not needed. Instead, you’ll find our red John & Will water bottle in your room, which we’re happy to refill with tap water—either still or sparkling—whenever you like. After your stay, we disinfect and reuse it. Important to know: Bremen has excellent tap water!
TV?
Not here — those things use electricity and resources. But to stream your favourite series, we’ve got super-fast Wi-Fi. No device of your own? Come to the Barception, and we’ll lend you a tablet free of charge.
Eco and Local
Around 90% of what we use is organic. We’ve also optimised our supply chain so that our products primarily come from local suppliers. Find out more here:
Our towels and cosy bed linen are GOTS-certified (Global Organic Textile Standard). To increase durability, a small proportion of recycled polyester is blended into the bedding. You can find the certificates from our linen supplier, Beirholm, here.
Our laundry is cleaned at Wäscherei Stich — less than 10 km away and, of course, in an environmentally friendly way.
Our duvets and pillows are from Spessarttraum. They are Downpass-certified, meaning the supply chain for the down products is fully traceable and adheres to a zero-tolerance standard regarding any animal cruelty.

The toiletries in your bathrooms come from I Love Eco Essentials. They are sustainable throughout—from production to packaging to ingredients—and certified by Ecocert.

Kalle Coffee Roasters roast their coffee right here on our premises and then deliver it to us by cargo bike.
Our beer is called Hopfenfänger. Brewed right next door, the barrels are rolled across the courtyard straight into our Barception.
Fancy a cup of tea? It comes from Trink Meer Tee in Bremen and is organic-certified.
Water!
We promise: our rain shower is wonderful! You won’t even notice that we only use water-saving taps and showerheads from Hansgrohe’s EcoSmart series.
Gym
Our gym is sustainably and durably equipped by the German company Nohrd. Dumbbells, wall bars, and the punching bag are made from leather and wood. Fancy some cardio? The treadmill and rowing machine work entirely without electricity—powered only by your own strength.
Warm, Cold, Green
In your hotel room, you won’t find a traditional air-conditioning system. Instead, there’s a wall panel that lets you heat and cool the room. This panel is connected to the energy system of the Überseeinsel—home to what may be Europe’s most innovative energy concept. Using a heat exchanger, we draw energy for heating and cooling from the water of the Weser. The only electricity we need is to adjust the water temperature via a large heat pump, and this power comes almost entirely from sustainable sources: sun and wind.
But what happens when there’s no wind or the sky is overcast? During sunny and windy periods, we store huge amounts of hot and cold water in insulated heat tanks, as well as ice slurry for cooling the buildings in our ice storage system. This allows us to decouple electricity consumption from electricity generation. Fun fact: thanks to technical innovations, we can even use the Weser as a heat source at water temperatures around 0 °C—something unique in Germany.
This energy concept doesn’t just provide heating and cooling more sustainably and cost-effectively—it’s also fun. Part of the local heating and cooling network includes an ice-skating rink in winter right next to John & Will—and in the future, a swimming pool as well.
Streets for People
This is still a project for the future: the streets of the Überseeinsel are intended first and foremost for children. They should be able to play here safely and freely. Once the neighbourhood is completed, cars will stay in underground garages and mobility hubs, and the streets will become playgrounds and living rooms.
Getting around is still easy: John & Will is excellently connected by tram lines 3 and 5. Already today, you can charge your car on-site at 12 charging stations powered by green electricity. You can also rent a regular or cargo bike from us and cycle, for example, along the Weser to the city centre in just a few minutes.
Disappear, Seep Away, Illuminate
Orchards, green joints, parks, planted buildings: the Überseeinsel is intended to be as green as possible. And we’re already getting started: in front of our hotel, there are flower beds that bloom beautifully and wildly in summer. They’re watered automatically—the smart system only waters during extended dry periods.
Waste goes into an underground collection system. Rainwater soaks into unpaved surfaces, evaporates from green areas, or is collected for irrigation. Lighting keeps the neighbourhood safe without disturbing insects. On special occasions, we light up the area—and the Barception at John & Will—with colour.
